Online auction and retail site eBay is the most visited shopping website in the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore while Amazon takes the top spot in the US and comes a close second in Singapore and the UK.
Online auction site eBay UK was the most visited shopping and classifieds site in the United Kingdom during the week ending July 10, receiving 21.32 percent of visits; in the same period the most popular US retail site was Amazon.com, which received 15.47 percent of visits, according to the weekly industry rankings report published by analysis and data service Experian Hitwise on July 12.
Amazon.co.uk, the UK equivalent of US retail site Amazon.com, was also in the top ten of most visited retail sites in the UK coming second with 5.98 percent of visits.
In Australia, Amazon.com was the third most popular retail website receiving 2.01 percent of visits during the week ending July 10; however eBay and its regional subsidiaries dominated the top two spots. EBay.com.au took the top spot, receiving 26.51 percent of visits and eBay.com came second with 3.43 percent, while the regional automotive division of the website, eBay Motors Australia was also in the top ten, at number six, with 0.78 percent of visits.
Regional eBay site ebay.com.sg also took the top spot from Amazon in the Singapore market during the week ending July 10; however the auction and retail site was tops by a smaller margin, receiving 5.23 percent of visits, just beating Amazon, which received 3.87 percent of visits.
EBay allows registered users to auction or bid for items they wish to sell or buy, to a degree the site is self-monitored with users leaving feedback on the quality of service provided by other members. Amazon, best known for selling books and electronic equipment such as DVDs and CDs recently launched an online grocery store in the Germany at www.amazon.de.
