Go Searching on Mobile

BANGALORE: Search engines have been trying their level best to make sense of the infinite data which is swimming all around us and present it to the users at the click of a mouse or on your cellphone. There have been sites like Google, Yahoo!, AOL and others closer home, like Sulekha and now there is yet another search service which has jumped onto the arena, Zook, which claims to be India’s first mobile search service. It was founded by Dr Ajay Sethi, who was the director of development at Oracle, and has authored several papers and patent applications.

Be it a movie timing or ticket bookings, the hottest restaurants in town, ongoing offers and sales, travel information, ATMs and even classifieds — you can get it all through your mobile, be it a top-end GPRS enabled phone or even the ones they now use as paperweights.

It can be accessed on your mobile browser through GPRS (http://zook.in) or even through a simple SMS to 5757 5665.

The most popular content now in the mobile content section are the wallpapers, games, ringtones, games and graphics. So what is it that sets Zook apart from the other search services? “We don’t leave it to the user to browse through hundreds of link to find what is important. By categorising the results and presenting them to the user in a simple way, we save him time and data usage which runs up much faster in other search engines
.

Besides we also offer nation-wide results which sets us apart from local searches like Just- Dial,” opines Dr Sethi.

There are several new developments in the pipeline, with Zook going international in a month’s time. It is also tying up with service providers like Spice, Aircel, Idea, Virgin Mobile and Airtel Sri Lanka.

With Spice Punjab it is also going to offer users the option to check out stocks real time.
