eBay will eliminate its Featured First advertising program that allows Top Rated sellers to pay for top placement in search results. The company made the announcement in April but sellers may have been overlooked the news as it was part of the “Seller Release 2″ announcement that included news of the elimination of Store Inventory format and major changes to eBay’s fee structure.
eBay said it was discontinuing the Featured First program “so that the listings most relevant to a buyer’s search from sellers who provide great value and service are surfaced consistently at the top of search results-the underlying goal of Best Match.”
Featured First will no longer be available for purchase with a listing after June 29, 2010, and will automatically expire from any existing listings on July 29, 2010.
eBay said there were no plans to replace Featured First, and advised sellers to consider allocating their Featured First budgets to its AdCommerce advertising program. (Sellers must have a standard or raised standing in Best Match search results in order to use AdCommerce.)
