Job openings in the Detroit metro area were up 8.1 percent compared to July and 60.2 percent compared to August 2010. There remained 5.1 applicants for every job opening in the Metro Detroit area, SimplyHired reports.
Employers advertising for the most people in metro Detroit were:
- Henry Ford Health System – 2,141 jobs (255.1%)
- General Motors – 798 jobs (20.9%)
- HCR Manor Care – 513 jobs (6.1%)
- St. John Health System – 512 jobs (6.1%)
- Meijer – 480 jobs (0.7%)
Nationwide, the biggest increases in available jobs were in retail (41.1%), military (22.0%) and nonprofit (18.2%). Job openings declined in agriculture (-6.1%), automotive (-3.1%) and manufacturing (-0.3%).
Opportunities for workers in scientific fields also increased notable. The occupation category for scientists, social scientists and lab techs had a 77.9% increase in job openings, the second-greatest for the month after the consistently robust retail salespersons category (78.7%).
