Tampa Woman Lists Herself On Ebay, Gets Job

These days, it seems to take a lot of audacity to find a job.

And Sherry Campbell proves it.

Earlier this month, Tampa Bay’s 10 Connects profiled Campbell after she posted herself on eBay.

At the time, she made $7.21 an hour and was on a draw at a car dealership. The hours were long, and she was beginning to lapse on rent payments.

The starting bid on eBay was just 99 cents.

But the gamble paid off.

David Phillips, owner of Caribebay.com, saw her story on 10 Connects.

“[I] went online actually at 10Connects.com and saw the link there with the email address to Sherry,” he recalled. “And I thought: she’s a sales person.”

Campbell recalled his phone call.

“He wanted to bring me on because he thought my marketing strategy was great,” she said with a chuckle.

Campbell came in for an interview on Tuesday and started on Wednesday. She works Monday through Friday, earning a salary plus commission.

She’s now the director of merchant services for Caribebay.com, an online mall for small businesses.

And, if you look closely at the name of the site, you’ll catch the irony of the story.

“It’s awesome,” Campbell said with a satisfied smile from her new cubicle at their offices in Tampa. “This is what I wanted to gain from this whole experience and I got it. So, it paid off.”
