According to the survey, which was commissioned by eBay, “Three in four U.S. adults (75%) said they prefer to buy or sell items from a Web site that does not host erotic ads or adult services, and more than half (53%) of consumers said they would prefer that a family member use a site without such listings.” more…

Kijiji Talks Smack About Craigslist: “We Will Be No. 1 In the U.S.”

Why can’t brothers and sisters just get along? As I noted earlier this month, eBay’s free classifieds site Kijiji is coming on strong since its launch in the U.S. last summer. Of course, eBay owns 25 percent of Craigslist, but since the other 75 percent is not for sale, eBay is putting all of its eggs into more…

One of my primary attractions to sites like Twitter, FriendFeed, Facebook, etc is that they are predicated on distribution and portability. But a recent New York Times article “Craig Looks Beyond the Web” made me rethink the definition of distribution.

The article describes how Craigslist has added over 250 new locations (ie [city].craigslist.org) to expand their reach and help drive growth (of note, Kijiji launched in the US in 200+ cities – a complete list is available on www.kijiji.com): more…

Site helps people sell everything they can think of.

A phone call at 11 o’clock at night. I reach across the dark and rest the phone between my pillow and ear.

“Katie,” whispers my mother’s voice, with the evening news in the background. “Your aunt and the kids have been looking on Kijiji for puppies and found an ad for one in Moncton. . .she’s adorable.” A pause breaks while the reporter on the broadcast takes over the conversation. She then drops the request.

“Would you go look at the puppies and see if they come from a good home?” The prerequisite list of puppy necessities grows from just a good home to include their play behaviour, shedding routine, clipping, etc . . .as the approaching date of puppy sorting draws near. more…
