SAO PAULO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - February 4, 2010) - OLX, already present online in 90 countries, has announced the opening of a new office in Brazil.
OLX.com.br has grown by 450% in the last two years and already counts 14 million visits per month in Brazil, with more than 1 million published items. The online classifieds company expects continued strong growth, aiming for 20 millions visits per month in 2010.
SÃO PAULO, Brazil -- OLX today announced the appointment of Rodrigo Ribeirão as Country Manager of OLX Brazil. In his new role, Ribeirão will lead all OLX Brazil operations, including both the internet classifieds site (www.olx.com.br) and the mobile classifieds site (http://m.olx.com.br/).
OLX and hi5, both challengers to dominating juggernauts in their respective fields (online classifieds and social networking), have teamed up to expose each others’ admittedly vast but geographically spread audience to one another. OLX says it currently boasts 70 million unique visitors each month across 90 countries, largely thanks to existing partnerships with services that have historically seen most of their growth in Latin-America and Asia (Friendster, MySpace Lat-Am, Fotolog etc.), while hi5 claims 60 million monthly unique visitors from 200 countries.
OLX is reaching out to powersellers through email and a public relations campaign in order to bulk up its U.S. listings, and AuctionBytes spoke to one of the site's cofounders this week. Fabrice Grinda founded the international classifieds site with Alec Oxenford in March 2006 and the pair has raised $28.5 million in funding. Grinda told AuctionBytes that OLX has 70 million unique monthly visitors worldwide.
OLX, an online classifieds site based outside the US, has raised $5 million in funding from Nexus Capital India. This round brings the total amount of funding to $28.5 million.
