Video and mobile Capture 25 per cent Market Share by 2014

mobile advertisingOnline advertising revenue will account for 25 per cent of the total advertising market by 2014, according to a recent research report.

Overall online advertising expenditure will tip $3.6 billion in 2014, and will fall just shy of $4 billion by the end of 2015.

abesmarketA Chicago-area startup that sells natural consumer goods online, Abe’s Market, closed a $3.4 million series A investment the company announced today. Accel Partners led the round, joined by the company’s earlier investors, Index Ventures and several angels.

Abe’s Market calls itself the equivalent of an online farmer’s market, and focuses on selling non-food category natural products like beauty, bath, baby or cleaning items, though it also sells some packaged comestibles. more…

Craigslist Asked to Shut Down ‘Adult Services’ Section

Craigslist came under fire again Monday when a human rights group took out an ad that detailed the ordeals of two women it described as survivors of Craigslist sex trafficking, and asked the site to shut down its adult services section.

In a blog post response, Craigslist co-founder Jim Buckmaster expressed concern about whether or not the perpetrators had been arrested, but said that “criminal misuse of the site is quite rare.”

The ad, which was funded by the FAIR Fund and formatted as a letter to Craigslist co-founder Craig Newmark, discussed the abduction and forced prostitution of two women who identified themselves as AK and MC. It was published in The Washington Post and The San Francisco Chronicle. more…

Irish online display advertising performs strongly

Irish online display advertising bucked the general advertising malaise and performed strongly during 2009, as reported by the first IAB Ireland (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) online adspend study.

According to the study released earlier this week, total Irish online adspend reached just short of €100 million and accounts for just over 10% of the general advertising market that includes newspaper, tv, radio, outdoor and cinema.

The IAB / PWC study splits the online advertising ‘cake’ into three sectors; Search, (46.2%), Display (26.6%) and Classifieds (27%). more…
