Google Plus Traffic Went Up 1269% Last Week

googleplusNew data from Experian Hitwise show a dramatic increase in traffic over the week since the service opened to everyone. Visits to Google Plus increased by 1269% last week. The site received 15 million U.S. visits, up from 1.1 million the week before. Zoopla buys houseprices.co.uk

zoopla-alex-chestermanZoopla has bolstered its market data resourses with the acquisition of www.houseprices.co.uk.

The portal, which Zoopla has acquired for an undisclosed sum, launched in 2005 to offer consumers Land Registry sold house price information for over 11 million properties across England and Wales for free.

Zoopla plans to retain the brand, which joins Easyroommate.co.uk, which Zoopla partnered with in October, Byteplay, which the portal acquired in August and Thinkproperty.com and Propertyfinder.com, which were both acquired in 2009. more…

Classifieds boost online advertising growth in September quarter

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser falls below 50% of worldwide market for first time

2010:Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) browser has fallen below 50% of the worldwide market for the first time according to StatCounter. The company’s research arm, StatCounter Global Stats finds that Microsoft IE fell to 49.87% in September followed by Firefox with 31.5%. Google’s Chrome continues to increase market share at an impressive rate and has more than tripled from 3.69% in September 2009 to 11.54% in September this year. more…

Google’s speed need: ‘instantaneous Internet’

In late 2007, Google engineers set out to test a hunch.

For about a million oblivious users, the company throttled back the delivery of search results by 100 to 400 milliseconds for several weeks. Less than half a second is barely perceptible, but the results were unmistakable.

Use of the search engine dropped by 0.2 to 0.6 percent on average during the experiment, worsening as it went on.

If 0.6 percent sounds trivial, consider this: Had search advertising dropped off commensurately, and there’s every reason to believe it would have, the delay would have cost Google about $900 million in revenue last year. more…
